The first time I was introduced to modern ghost hunting was at a ghost hunter shop where I was studying wicca in Lexington, KY back in 2012. I was in the witchy part of the shop in the back. It was closed and everyone was in the front. As plain as day I heard a old man say, “Hello!”
But no one was there.
I told the owner and she laughed. She told me, “Oh that’s Henry. He’s our shop ghost. He does that sometimes and it scares people, but he’s friendly.”
The first time I saw someone use a spirit box was on a ghost hunters’ tour in Key West, FL.
My family and I went to an old Masonic Lodge and a voice came through the box. It kept telling us to go away. I also got a picture of phantom hands that night. I circled the hands in the photo below. No one was seated in the chair where the hands appeared and no one was leaning over the back of it either.

I’ve been doing a lot of contemplation and meditation on the concept of multiple timelines in quantum physics. I meditate on these ideas often. I’m fascinated by the idea that there is a completly scientific way to use your mind to time travel between different timelines and dimensions. We haven’t cracked that code yet, but my understanding is that some physicists have been proposed that if you become detached from the idea time MUST be linear, you can shift where you are in time and space.
So because I enjoy videos about hauntings, I’ve started to wonder if quantum physics could eventually explain paranormal activity.
Recently, I stumbled across the channel of a guy who goes to clean graves and takes a spirit box with him. After watching several of his shorts, I found out he was using an app as his spirit box.
I was like, “OK, this sounds cool to try.”
I did a little research on the phone apps and it seemed like reviews by known ghost hunters recommended downloading Sono X10 Spirit Box App for iOS. Best of all, the ghost hunters were using the free version so I liked that the free version was certifiably decent.

After doing a little research on how to use the app, I tried it out.
I asked the spirit box if anyone was in my apartment with me.
A voice came through and said, “The devil.”
“Shutup you’re full of shit!” I replied. To me, it seemed like if a spirit was coming through, it knew I’m a witch and took an issue with that right away.
I expected to run into old timey spirits though. This neighborhood is old and I occasionally encounter them. I figured back in the 19th and early 20th century, most people were into church because there wasn’t much else to do. So I wondered if the spirit coming through was some l Christian spirit who didn’t like my super witchy apartment.

Then I went to the convenient store and tried the spirit box on the way home. I went down the alley and asked if any spirits in the alley wanted to talk.
Several different voices came through. They talked over each other.
“I’m good.”
“I’m good.”
“I’m fine.”
So it was good to know everybody in the alley is all good.
Later, I went to the graveyard park to try the app out after dark.
At first, it was hard to get a response from any spirits. I found that surprising since the park is famous for its hauntings.
So I decided to hunt for cold spots.
I like how ethereal the park is and I spend a lot of time there. So I’m familiar with what areas seem to have the most paranormal activity. For example, I usually stay out of the center of the park because of the strong paranormal energy, but tonight, I wanted to be friendly and engage. So I went straight to the center of the park.
“We build an altar,” came through followed by the word “Eucharist.”
“Why are all you Catholics around me?”
I wondered if it was just a Catholic radio station coming through or if old timey ghosts just talk about Christianity a lot.
I started out like most ghost hunters do in videos, asking if anyone was there. A voice came through and told me to take a right. I turned and walked some more.
Then I got some names.
The first name that came through was Rosemary.
I think Rosemary tried to tell me she was from California. I saw a horse and carriage in my mind’s eye. It was a dusty afternoon. It didn’t look like Colorado. I wondered if Rosemary shared a memory with me.
Here are some other bits I remember of my first ghost hunting experience using the Sono X10 Spirit Box App:
A man named Brandon came forward.
“Brandon,” the voice said.
“Hi Brandon, is this your grave?” I asked.
Then a contemporary voice said, “No way dude!”
“Uuuum, that’s not Brandon” I chuckled.
I realized that it might be more than just old timey ghosts hanging around. It didn’t occur to me contemporary ghosts could be around too.
A boy ghost came forward next and said, “I’m eight!” He sounded excited.
Even though no one was sticking around for long conversation, there were a lot of excited voices coming through. I wondered if the spirits were taking turns speaking to me because they are friendly with each other.
Then I told the spirits New Year’s Eve is tomorrow asked them if they know what year it will be.
A girl came forward and said, “2021.”
“Close,” I replied. “It’ll be 2026.”
I saw a blue dress, a window and a garden in my mind’s eye.
That’s when I started to speculate that hauntings may be a multidimensional phenomenon. I had always thought the concept of residual versus active hauntings is valid. When I worked in an antique store, I played a game going around and touching objects, searching for left over memories imprinted on the molecular level. And like a psychic forensics scientist, I learned to take memories, like fingerprints, off of objects.
So when the ghost was five years off on guessing the year, I wondered if her energy ran between different years on different timelines. I thought that, according to the little I know about quantum physics, that could be entirely possible. Why couldn’t spirits exist on multiple timelines transposed over each other if there is no such thing as time?
I am VERY curious what my physics mentor may think of that idea. I’m excited as to what he might have to say.
I continued to walk around the center of the park. I stopped and stood under a tree. A man’s voice came forward on the spirit box app and told me what park I was in and named it as a graveyard.
“Thanks, but I already knew that,” I said, hoping that my response didn’t sound rude. But the man kept talking. He said, “Under tree.” He had a stronger command of the app than the others did.
I felt like the man was telling others where we were.
I repeated, “Yes, we are under the tree,” I said.
Then I walked towards the Botanical Gardens because I wanted to ask the spirits what they thought about the Christmas lights. At this point I thought there could be a small group with me. I could almost see them in my third eye. They were different ages and some felt much older than others. I think maybe there were 5 or 6 adults and possibly 2 children but I can’t be for sure.
But they were all friendly and they seemed really happy to have a visitor from the living. Everyone got really chatty when I asked about the lights. Several voices talked over each other.
“Pretty!”
“Pretty!”
“Nice!”
“That’s nice!”
Pretty!”
So the spirits are super pleased about the Christmas lights. Way to go, Denver Botanic Gardens!

Then I decided to go home. I asked the spirits if they wanted me to come visit again and they started chattering.
“Yes!”
“Yes!”
“Yes please!”
“That would be nice,” (this spirit came through clearer than anyone. She sounded old and old fashioned too but very friendly. I saw a grandmother’s face in my third eye.)
So I said goodbye to the small group of spirits, told everyone no one can follow me home, drew a pentagram and went home a different way.
My Thoughts

Well, I’m still not sure if the spirit box really helps you talk to spirits or not. It feels like a modern day Ouija Board but if anything, I found the game fun and interesting.
I did think it was cool that the voices that came through on the app sounded very different and had different moods and even seemed to be from different times.
Some of the voices coming through the spirit box app did tell me interesting things about my location. I’m not sure what kind of frequencies it accesses so not sure if that is something the app could be programmed to tell you.
I will be playing with the spirit box more. I felt like doing psychopomp work with it as a psychic medium, it helped illuminate specters. It gave me the boost I needed to locate energies and get a clear vision of who was around me. Once the spirits started speaking up, it was much easier to see them in my 3rd eye.
I think the most interesting part is that the spirits seemed to be curious about the app. I also was surprised that there was a small group gathered around me. It was way more than in the spirit box videos I’ve seen.
My neighbor is famously haunted and I’m super clairvoyant. I was brought up at the knee of my psychic/medium great grandma and she trained me well. But I’m also wondering if the app may be trying to convince me to buy the paid version by giving me more access as a perk for a first time user. Not sure though so we’ll see as I how it goes as I gain more experience using the app.
If I feel comfortable, I may make my first ghost hunting video at some point but I’m not really sold on the app 100% yet. If, after time, I feel the app is legit and I continue to enjoy casual ghost hunting, I may start making content. Ghost hunting content is popular and it could be fun to create content.
For now, I have some ideas for interesting places to investigate … 👻
