Winter has been declared “over” and the temperatures are in the 80s here in Denver.
Now that the weather is nice, I’m getting out a lot more.
This is our 3rd New Year this year. The first was January 1, then Lunar New Year and now the Astrological New Year.
As I said before, as a New Year’s baby I hate the argument about the “real” new year. Pick the ones that resonate with you and leave the others behind but it’s dumb to demand one is better than the other. They’re all different and that’s not a bad thing.

Witchcraft Basics: Building a Daily Practice Class at Herbs and Arts
I started a Witchcraft Basics: Building a Daily Practice class with Shen-tat because I needed a refresher and I wanted to get back into a daily practice. My first class was on Wednesday and I really enjoyed it! I learned a new way of journaling that is very alchemical and I’ve already noticed it’s alchemical effects. I think this will be a good class and Shen-tat seems good at adjusting the class to various levels of experience.
Moon Magick Class at Spiritways

Then on Ostara Eve I went to a Moon Magick Class at Spiritways taught by Nancy West. I saw a selenite bowl that called to me sitting on the teacher’s desk . It was EXACTLY what I was looking for for my daily practice assignment and I was delighted when a geologist in the class said that it was safe to drink from and wouldn’t dissolve. So I bought it and am very happy with my purchase.
In the class, we talked about the full moon eclipse in Virgo on 03/03/26 and we were encouraged to contemplate how the energy from the eclipse impacted our lives.
For me, that eclipse occurred in my 11th house. According to Astrology by Lauren, the eclipse in my 11th house Virgo to would bring issues to the forefront concerning: sense of self, personal self-development, physical and mental health and well-being and how others perceive me.

I had a doozy of a bout with PMDD during the eclipse and it didn’t help the evlipse energy wad coming on during Mercury Retrograde intensified.

But my friends reminded me I’m not alone. It helped me find strength when all I wanted to do was run outside and howl at the moon.
I also helped table a cool event with the library about called After Dark where a physicist and poet gave talks about night from a scientific and art perspective. I enjoyed helping Matt and Lily sell books for Westside Books and I got to give reviews and have good conversations. So to me, the eclipse illuminated my dream of owning my own metaphysical bookstore one day.
And those were the themes that stood out to me from the eclipse.

After we revisited the themes of the eclipse in the Moon Magick class, we talked about selenite and it’s connection to the Moon. We discussed the goddess Selene who is connected with Selenite and the myth of how she fell in love with Edydamion. It reminded me of Sailor Moon!

The myth has variations but the summary of the one we discussed goes like this:
Selene saw Endymion sleeping in a cave while she was driving the moon chariot across the sky. She fell in love with him and started visiting every night. This really messed up the cycles of the moon and just like in the story of Persephone, the rhythm of the earth became disrupted and Zeus had to interfere to bring balance back to nature.
Zeus gave Endymion two choices: he could choose immortality and stay asleep forever. The only one who could visit him in his eternal dream would be Selene.
Or he could remain mortal and pick the hour of his death.
Endymion chose eternal dreaming.
So Selene could stay the night with him on new moon, but as the moon gradually became more and more full, her time with him shorted and then lengthened until it was new moon again.
Then we made our sachets for dream enhancement after story time.
New Moon Dream Sachet by Nancy West
You will need
- Listeria oil
- Lylac oil
- Dried roses
Start with one drop of each oil and mix with the dried roses petals. Add oil drops until the scent is to your satisfaction.
Fill a sachet with the mixture.
I added selenite and worry dolls to mine and put it under my mattress when I got home.

I also had some fun discussions about travel and gender with a couple other people in the class.
It was a lovely evening and I took my time walking home and enjoying our summery weather despite being aware that this is very unnatural.
Ostara with the Rosicrucians

Ostara was lovely. I went to AMORC’s ritual and celebrated the solstice with my favorite mentors and philosophers in Denver.
I missed my bus and Evyl couldn’t make it. I almost didn’t go but then a young woman gave me a rose, a symbol of our order, at the bus stop. I took that as a good sign and decided to go and let everyone know I was running a few minutes late.
I did a painting for Carol, who I consider my godmother and it was a journey completing it to delivering it to her on the equinox. She was so gracious and so complimentary of it and we admired my painting together and gave each other hugs.

David, the Merlin to my King Author and Carol’s husband, gave me a big hug and I got to catch up with both of them.
I also talked to Phil, the current provincial master of our region of the Traditional Martinist order and he agreed to help me with looking at my options for going back to school for a program through work. Honestly, it freaks me out to consider going back to school but Evyl’s last reading for me said I need to not over think the next opportunity and take it. I’m glad I have the support from my esoteric community and also my family.
I have more magic coming my way. Tomorrow Evyl and I are going to a mini class at Spiritways and Monday I’m going to a private wicca ceremony at my friend’s house. Then Friday I start another class about books of shadows.
So my life has become a lot more magical since I quit my part time job. I have to budget more and that sucks but most classes and events I go to are free and so I feel very enriched right now.
How is was your astrological new year?
